Summer 2026 issue (No. 308) — Disability: The Revolution Update

We would like to inform our readers that our Summer 2026 issue (No. 308) — Disability: The Revolution normally distributed July 15 is unavoidably delayed. The issue is now expected to ship from our printer August 26, which means that once it reaches our office, it will only be shipped to subscribers and newsstands in early September.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Thank you for your understanding and loyal Fiddlehead support.

Meet our 2026 Fiction Contest Judge, Kirti Bhadresa!

Kirti Bhadresa lives in Calgary, Alberta on Treaty 7 territory. Kirti has fiction and nonfiction writing in many publications including The Fiddlehead, Prairie Fire, and Room Magazine. Her first book, a short story collection entitled An Astonishment of Stars, was published in October 2024 by ECW Press.

We’re thrilled to announce that Ariadne Asho is the winner of our 2025 Fiction Contest and $2,000 prize! Her story, “Faultline,” will appear in the upcoming Winter issue of The Fiddlehead (no. 306).

Ariadne Asho grew up on Vancouver Island and now lives in Montreal. Her work has appeared in The New Quarterly, and her stories were longlisted for the CBC Short Story Prize twice, in 2023 and 2025. She is currently working on a collection of short fiction.
