Apology

As editor of The Fiddlehead, I apologize for the insensitive and ignorant review of Emily Riddle’s The Big Melt that appeared on our website.  It should never have been published and we have removed it. The Fiddlehead has contributed to exactly the kind of colonial destructiveness that we should be working against. We should be supporting healing and resistance, not perpetuating racism and pain.   

Shirley Harshenin Wins Gold!

Congratulations to Shirley Harshenin whose story "Invisible Walls: A Decentred Hermit Crab Sticky Note Narrative" won gold at the 2023 National Magazine Awards for One-of-a-Kind Storytelling! "Invisible Walls: A Decentred Hermit Crab Sticky Note Narrative" appeared in Issue 292 (Summer Creative Nonfiction 2022).

2023 National Magazine Awards!

We are excited to announce that two Fiddlehead contributors have been nominated for National Magazine Awards! Izza Hassan's poem "Neighborhood Haunt & Hamsas Around My Neck" which appeared in Issue 290 BIPOC Solidarities has been nominated for poetry and Shirley Harshenin's story "Invisible Walls: A Decentred Hermit Crab Sticky Note Narrative" which appeared in Issue 292 has been nominated for One-of-a-Kind Storytelling.

Congratulations to Poetry Contest Winner Moni Brar!

We're excited to announce that Moni Brar is the winner of the 2022 Ralph Gustafson Poetry Prize! Her poem “Dispossession in Five Acts [or How to Be a Model Minority or Not]” will appear in the Spring 2023 issue of The Fiddlehead

Moni Brar was born in rural India and raised in northern BC on the land of the Tse’Khene. She is the winner of the 2022 Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Emerging Artist Award and a finalist for the Montreal International Poetry Prize. She believes art contains the possibility of healing.

UNB Reading Series Presents Alexander MacLeod

Wednesday, March 22nd, 7pm, Alexander MacLeod will be reading, in person, at Carleton Hall (UNBF), room 106. UNB English/Creative Writing graduate student Mike Thorn will be opening the reading. Masks are mandatory. If you're in the Fredericton area, we hope to see you there!
