Fiction

The University of New Brunswick invites you to a literary reading by acclaimed poet Billy-Ray Belcourt at 7:30 pm on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 in Carleton Hall, Room 139, on the Fredericton Campus.
 
Billy-Ray Belcourt is a poet, Rhodes Scholar, and author from the Driftpile Cree Nation. Belcourt’s work upsets form and genre while addressing a variety of topics and themes, including decolonial love, grief, intimacy and queer sexuality, and the role of Indigenous women in social resistance movements.
 

The odd sundays reading series returns with a special Frostival celebration at 2pm on February 3, 2019. This will mark the first afternoon at a new venue, the Tipsy Muse Café at 86 Regent St. Odd sundays will be celebrating all things Winter by hearing local writers read selections of wintry poems and stories, and launching The Fiddlehead's Winter issue. 

Reading their work about Winter will be Phil Hall, Gwen Martin and Jennifer Houle.

Our Creative Nonfiction editor, Alicia Elliott, is one of the women being sued. We stand behind her integrity as an editor and support her right to a legal defense. 

On Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at 7:30pm acclaimed journalist Marcello Di Cinto will be speaking in the Alumni Lounge in the Alumni Memorial Building (130 Bailey Drive) at UNB Fredericton as part of the UNB English Department’s Author Series. The author of the acclaimed Pay No Heed to Rockets: Palestine in the Present Tense and the award-winning Walls: Travels Along the Barricades, Di Cintio will read from his newest book and discuss contemporary Palestine and the narrow language of conflict. 

The odd sundays event on December 16th will be the last at its usual location of Corked Wine Bar, 83 Regent St. It will feature a slightly different format from the norm. The main portion of the afternoon will be a retrospective on the poetry of Margaret MacQuarrie-McLeod, who recently died after a lengthy illness. Margaret’s poetry will be read by members of the Wolf Tree Writers Group, of which Margaret was a founding member. That will be followed by two open sets on a seasonal theme.

odd sundays continues at 2pm on Sunday, December 2. Poets Travis Lane and Steve Luttrell will read at Corked Wine Bar, 83 Regent St. As always there will be an open set and a free book draw. 

It was indeed unfortunate that the weather forces conspired against us on November 4, and that afternoon’s session had to be cancelled. Many people, including our host - Corked - lost power; many still have not had their power resumed. Our hope is that situation will be remedied soon.

Douglas Gibson, former senior editor and publisher at McClelland & Stewart and Douglas Gibson Books, will deliver a public lecture entitled “Across Canada by Story: A Coast-to-Coast Literary Adventure” on Monday, 19 November at Memorial Hall on the University of New Brunswick’s Fredericton campus, beginning at 7:30 pm.  
 

Now into our fall 2018 season, odd sundays continues on Sunday, November 4 with a returning guest and a new one to our series. As usual we will gather at 2 PM at Corked Wine Bar, 83 Regent St. Our regular audience continues to grow, so come join in, get a drink from Charlotte, a book draw ticket and add your name to the Open Mic set. Make plans to attend and hear the fine work of Travis Lane and Nathaniel G. Moore.
