Free Playwriting Workshop July 22nd in Fredericton

NotaBle Acts Theatre Company is pleased to have Anna Chatterton as Playwright in Residence for their 2017 Summer Theatre Festival, which runs July 25-August 5 at locations throughout Fredericton. As part of her residency Anna will be giving a free playwriting workshop on Saturday, July 22 from 10-4 PM (with a lunch break) at Carleton Hall on the UNB campus.

In this workshop Anna will lead participants through various writing exercises that will set you on your way towards writing a dynamic play. From generating ideas to passionate monologues to snappy dialogue, we will explore ways to find your authentic and unique voice and learn about character development, relationships, and creating engaging stories.

Bio: Anna Chatterton is a librettist, playwright and performer based in Hamilton, Ontario. Her play Within the Glass premiered at Tarragon Theatre, where she was a playwright in residence for five years. Anna is currently playwright in residence at Nightwood Theatre, which produced her solo play Quiver last fall and will produce her play Heroine in 2019. Anna is developing her play Cowgirl Up with Alberta Theatre Projects, slated to be produced in their 2018/2019 season. Anna has also been a playwright in residence at the National Theatre School of Canada.

Anna also writes and performs with the acclaimed feminist theatre collective Independent Aunties. Their most recent play, Gertrude and Alice, was nominated for Dora Mavor Moore awards for Outstanding New Play and Outstanding Ensemble. Anna was also awarded a Toronto Critics Theatre Award for Best Supporting Actress and a My Entertainment World Award for Best Actress, both for her role of Alice. As a librettist Anna's work includes Swoon (Canadian Opera Company), Crush (COC and The Banff Centre), Stitch (Theatre Centre, Dora nomination for Outstanding New Opera) and Rocking Horse Winner (Tapestry Opera), which recently won a Dora award for Outstanding Opera Production 2017.

Anna has her MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Guelph and BFA in Theatre Performance from Concordia University.
