I've been looking at titles for a while, trying to see how they're made, what they do, and I think this title does a lot. It gives me a picture, I imagine a photographer, a man, thoughtful but scruffy, and I wonder why it's his last photograph. Then it comes to me: because he dies. More questions: Does he die taking that last photograph? Does he take it and find something in it that leads to his death? Or to a final disillusionment? My guess: it's a dramatic moment, he is photographing someone who turns and shoots him. More questions then: Why? Who are they? Who is he? The language isn't as elegant as some of the other titles, but that image I receive is powerful and suggests that I will learn something in this book, that this writer really does have something important to tell me.

Can't wait to get my hands on the Mansfield Press titles in your pile. Stuart Ross recently announced that it was his last season editing for the press, and just as I enjoy his poetry, I've always admired his taste in writers.
