A 2026 BIPOC Writers’ Connect mentor, Rowan McCandless, is the First Vice-Chair of The Writers’ Union of Canada. A 2022 Governor General’s finalist in nonfiction, Rowan McCandless is the author of Persephone’s Children: A Life in Fragments (Dundurn Press, 2021). Her book is used in various university settings as a model for writing experimental nonfiction. Her award-winning fiction and creative nonfiction have appeared in multiple print and online journals and anthologies. She is currently completing The Mausoleum of Lost Souls, a short story collection that blends literary fiction with speculative elements. She is also working on a novel, North of Perfect, which incorporates magical realism.
