We're pleased to announce the winner of our creative nonfiction contest! Congrats to Dafna Izenberg — her piece "The promised language" has been chosen by our judge Marcello Di Cintio!
Di Cintio says, "For me, the biggest challenge of writing creative nonfiction is finding a way to combine factual research with personal experience. The author of 'The promised language' nails it. The story gracefully links the author's own fascination with the Hebrew language with the history of the language itself. The author also manages to deftly reflect upon the Israeli-Palestinian conflict without ire or hyperbole. This, in itself, is akin to a Biblical miracle."
Look for the winning piece in our Autumn 2019 issue, due back from the printers in a few weeks.
Dafna Izenberg works as an editor and writer in Toronto. Her writing has previously appeared in the New Quarterly and Hazlitt.
