These books have diversity of themes, diversity of outlooks, and diversity of geographical settings.

Most of the poems in this first book are just as flat, prosy and two-dimensional as the prairie wheat fields which the author describes with such exactness.

It was appropriate that this second chapbook by Ruby Nicholas (her first -- Songs from Then and Now -- appeared in 1947) should have been published in the autumn.

These poems are chosen from ten books published in the period 1944-1955.

For a first volume of verse, this book is very well done indeed.
