Matthew Gwathmey's Semantic Map on Beauty

Here’s my strange, semantic map of the first two parts of Anne Compton’s essay on beauty from her book Afterwork: Essays on Literature and Beauty (Fitzhenry and Whiteside, 2017). I started doing this because I was trying to understand and remember the various facets of this long essay.

Matthew Gwathmey lives in Fredericton, NB, and has studied creative writing at the University of Virginia and the University of New Brunswick. He has poems published in Grain, Crazyhorse, Prairie Fire, and The Iowa Review, among others. His first book, Our Latest in Folktales, was published by Brick Books in spring 2019.
