Richard B. Wright's Farthing's Fortunes may not be a grand novel in absolute terms (if such exists), but it's a "great read"--a rollicking, exuberant picaresque novel chock-full of Canadian cultural experience, and, as such, is a certain candidate for the next Governer-General's Award.
