Tamara Jong’s Reading and Music Recommendation

Tamara Jong’s Reading and Music Recommendation:

One and Half of You by Leanne Dunic, published by Talon Books and cover art by Katie So

Ma was a poet. I admit I gave that a go for a time. While I don’t write it these days and keep to non-fiction and lately graphic novels, it was a delight to read this lyrical memoir/poetry collection, along with music by tidepools to complement the work.

Some favourite lines from the book:

Birthmarks: some have vanished, but then
again, nostalgia distorts.

Sometimes I forget that I’m Chinese.

II

Have you seen In The Mood for Love

It’s my favourite movie.

III

I dream of finding you and my mouth opens
to pour jagged rocks.
