Congratulations to Creative Nonfiction Contest Winner Jenny Hwang!

We're excited to announce that Jenny Hwang is the winner of our 2022 Creative Nonfiction Contest and $2000 prize! Her essay Silkworms is featured in the new Autumn issue of The Fiddlehead (no.293).

Jenny Hwang is a Korean-Canadian writer and mother. She has previously worked as an immigration lawyer and in refugee resettlement with Canada’s Private Sponsorship of Refugees program. She lives with her family in Mississauga, Ontario

2022 Creative Nonfiction Contest Shortlist Announced!

Andrea Bishop’s work has been published or is forthcoming in Grain, Orca Literary, Exile’s CVC Anthology Series, and elsewhere. Her story "Good Dog" is featured in the new creative nonfiction issue of The Fiddlehead. She is currently finishing a short story collection and working on her first novel. . Jenny Ferguson (she/her) is Michif and white, an activist, a feminist, an auntie, and an accomplice with a PhD. She believes writing, teaching and beading are political acts. THE SUMMER OF BITTER AND SWEET, her debut YA novel, was published by Heartdrum/HarperCollins in Summer 2022. She teaches at Loyola Marymount University. Jenny's essay "Floods and Other Disasters" was published in the Summer 2022 creative nonfiction issue of The Fiddlehead.

Summer 2022 Editorial

A story. A story. Please tell me a story.

I grew up around storytellers. My paternal grandmother offered up family stories alongside Sunday dinners. I myself performed storytelling in schools as an elementary schoolteacher, prior to becoming a writer. When someone shares a personal account, they are offering up the truth of their experience. What a gift that is to be shared and received. That is why I feel so honoured to be The Fiddlehead’s creative nonfiction editor for this special summer CNF issue that is most dear to my heart.
