On the day, there is a darkness, raven black, on the far edge of the ocean, a soft settled line breaks the sky from the sea and the sea from the sky. Both summer blue, like twins. 

Do not start with darkness. Consider blackberry picking this afternoon. Consider a pie. The wasps going insane.

Greenland melts.

Australia is on fire.

Judy LeBlanc’s Reading Recommendation

Judy LeBlanc’s collection of short stories, The Promise of Water was published in 2017. Her work has appeared in numerous Canadian literary journals, most recently, Prairie Fire, and she’s currently completing a collection of personal essays.She lives on the unceded traditional territory of the K’ómoks First Nation. Sandra Nicholls' Reading Recommendations

Sandra Nicholls is the author of two books of poetry, The Untidy Bride and Woman of Sticks, Woman of Stones, and a novel, And the Seas Shall Turn to Lemonade. She also wrote the libretto for a chamber opera about a homeless man, with her husband, guitarist Roddy Ellias. Sleeping Rough was performed at Ottawa’s Music and Beyond Festival, and is available as a DVD. New projects include a second novel, The Ornamental Man, and a suite of songs about the pandemic, Not This Room. Her story, "From A Distance", is featured in the new Spring issue of The Fiddlehead
