The odd sundays reading series returns with a special Frostival celebration at 2pm on February 3, 2019. This will mark the first afternoon at a new venue, the Tipsy Muse Café at 86 Regent St. Odd sundays will be celebrating all things Winter by hearing local writers read selections of wintry poems and stories, and launching The Fiddlehead's Winter issue. 

Reading their work about Winter will be Phil Hall, Gwen Martin and Jennifer Houle.

On Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at 7:30pm acclaimed journalist Marcello Di Cinto will be speaking in the Alumni Lounge in the Alumni Memorial Building (130 Bailey Drive) at UNB Fredericton as part of the UNB English Department’s Author Series. The author of the acclaimed Pay No Heed to Rockets: Palestine in the Present Tense and the award-winning Walls: Travels Along the Barricades, Di Cintio will read from his newest book and discuss contemporary Palestine and the narrow language of conflict.

The city of Fredericon has just announced this morning that Jenna Lyn Albert, a member of The Fiddlehead's eidtorial board, is the city's next poet laureate! Here is the city's news release:

"Local poet, Jenna Lyn Albert has been appointed as the City of Fredericton's next poet laureate. She will serve for a two-year term starting January 28, 2019.

Mikka Jacobsen 's essay "Parlour Tricks" appears in this fall's Creative Nonfiction issue. 

Ania Mroczek recommends Clarice Lispector's The Passion According to G.H. Look for Mroczek's essay "It’s Necessary to Talk About Trees" in this fall's all-creative nonfiction issue, edited by Alicia Elliott. 

The odd sundays event on December 16th will be the last at its usual location of Corked Wine Bar, 83 Regent St. It will feature a slightly different format from the norm. The main portion of the afternoon will be a retrospective on the poetry of Margaret MacQuarrie-McLeod, who recently died after a lengthy illness. Margaret’s poetry will be read by members of the Wolf Tree Writers Group, of which Margaret was a founding member. That will be followed by two open sets on a seasonal theme.

Zerrin Darnell-Martin recommends Trevor Noah's biography and two books by James Baldwin. Look for Zerrin's essay "Garlic Pussy" in this fall's all-creative nonfiction issue, edited by Alicia Elliott.
